This was my degree show at college 1998. It was a video, an installation and a performance by my friend the artist Bill Chellingsworth. Bill sat on a plinth one day and started riding it round the studio. I videoed this and then we worked on it over a number of sessions. It got to the point where it was very stripped back, minimal. The motif we ended up with was of an anonymised ‘rider’ using a set of steps to mount an awkwardly high plinth and then reverse into a corner. The character would then dismount and drag the plinth out of the area. They would then repeat the process.
